Rain falls up?I knew it'd happen quick. I miss Hope's music department. I discovered how cheaply-written some of my church's choir music is and it's making my skin crawl. Give me the Chapel Choir any day, thanks.
I miss my friends, too. I REALLY didn't want to leave for that exact reason. Thank goodness for e-mail and instant messaging. Maybe I should get Skype... opinions, anyone? Should I?
The weatherman says a storm system is supposed to go backwards. A storm system moving east to west? Does that mean the rain falls up, too? It's supposed to dump a ridiculous amount of rain or something like that, so it's a good thing I have reading material. And I discovered while unpacking that I have a bunch of CDs I have that I haven't really listened to with any sincerity. It looks like they have good stuff on them, so I have some catching up to do! The lawn will just have to wait a while and grow a little taller...
After a rehearsal at church choir, I've discovered some things about myself.
-I've already started down the road on being a music teacher. It's definitely not a classroom, but I saw at Pastor Lew's rehearsal techniques with a different perspective. It's amazing what three methods classes have done to me-I've learned a LOT about rehearsals. It has me excited to see what I'll learn in Secondary Choral Methods. And in conducting classes! Why yes, I am excited to learn to wave my arms in front of musicians.
-God is opening doors for me to learn more about working with students. One of my colleagues in the church choir asked me if I'd like to help working with the little kids this summer putting together a music program. Hello summer field placement, location: Cornerstone Baptist Church! I'd even be in charge at least one Sunday. Yikes!
-I'm a hopeless music geek. I was ANALYZING the music in rehearsal and realized I'm a lost cause. How am I so sure? Because I the following sequence ran through my brain as I was reading the scores.
"Okay, that's a I followed by a IV chord. Do we go to V? Of course we do."
"Dominant seventh of IV, heck yes!"
"Ooh, nice use of the deceptive cadence. Now back to IV... YES!"
"You call THAT a key change back to F?! It's still sounds like B-flat!"
"My neighbor is SO out of tune that he made the last chord sound like a split-third!" (tenors had the third in the final chord)
"Whoa, a common-TONE modulation! Pretty sweet..."
