What do you think the ugliest popular fashion in your lifetime was/is?
That's a toughie. There's a lot of ugly stuff out there.
A few of the whoppers...
-Light-up shoes: I owned a pair in fourth grade. Maybe they aren't so ugly, but I pulled them out one day in fifth grade because they still fit and man, I got laughed out of the school. I never wore them again.
-Platform shoes: these monstrosities made a comeback in 2000! I actually WANTED a pair?! (okay, so it was when I was ridiculously short...)
-Stretch pants: I can't believe even I wore a guy's version when I was really small-yikes to the nth degree!
-Rhinestone belts: my money says we're going to regret their comeback in about five years.
-The mullet and all its variants: a lot of us probably already regret the existence of the Kentucky waterfall. I remember the LHS men's swim team cut their long hair into mullets before shaving their heads when I was a sophomore. "Run for your lives!" I said. One of the few things I would still agree with my high school self on.
-Tattoos: we're a tattoo-happy society, and when my peers stop being lithe and fit, those tattoos aren't going to look so "cute" or "self-expressive." and they'll look... well, not either of those, probably, I fear. The next big fashion could be long sleeves!
-Roller shoes: these just seem like a bad idea. Kids aren't allowed to use the wheels in a lot of places and they seem like an accident waiting to happen if you ask me.
Amazing how we keep coming up with perfectly ugly ways to decorate ourselves even in the 21st century!
