A conversation with songs
I was listening to Casting Crowns' song "Prodigal." The lyrics reflect the repentant sinner's emotions and heart. I like it, although it is a bit on the melancholy side.
"And I've held out as long as I can
Now I'm letting go and holding out my hand
Daddy, here I am again, will you take me back tonight
I went and made the world my friend, and it left me high and dry
I dragged Your name back through the mud
That You first found me in
Not worthy to be called Your son
Is this to be my end?"
Thankfully, we know the answer from the son's father, which is one of joyfully receiving him back. It's sort of cool; Jeremy Camp almost penned the reply with "Take You Back."
"I'll take you back always
Even when your fight is over now
I'll take you back always
Even when the pain is coming through
I'll take you back"
We go our own way, turning our back on our Maker who loves us. Hopefully, we eventually reach a point where we want to come back, asking, "Daddy... will you take me back tonight?"
Thankfully, Daddy's answer is, "I'll take you back. Always."
