Footprints... How Interesting
I sometimes follow the footprints of visitors to my Xanga back to their own site to see who they are. Based on what I can glean from a simple blog (and maybe a profile), some of them have been very interesting.
One website I traced back to had me thinking. The person was an atheist, but raised some interesting. How do we as Christians defend we what believe, especially to someone who gives no credence to the Bible?
I thought about atheism in this case and the first thought that I had was simply the finite capacity of human knowledge. You may believe that God does not exist, but your being certain of God not existing rests entirely on that belief. The only way to truly KNOW would to be God, and then I doubt then that "person" would be an atheist.
I am certain that God exists because I believe He exists, even if I cannot "see" Him (yeah, very clear allusion to Hebrews 11). And I believe that because people are naturally more inclined towards evil than good because of weakness and imperfection, anything good through a person is a result of His intervention. I don't believe people can change themselves. I know I couldn't change myself. I lack the willpower and capacity. It would require something greater to do that. Thankfully, I believe God exists, that He created and saved me, that He can change me, and that He has and continues to do so.
I don't know if I could "convince" an atheist of anything. All I can speak to is what I've experienced, what I hold to be true, and what I seek.
