Sunday
I took Sara and Ross with me to Engedi this morning. They picked a good week to come. Pastor Brian's sermon continuing from restoration and into Jesus at the well with the Samaritan woman was sweet. Bonus: Noah and Kristen came for the first time too! I love seeing friends at church.
Afternoon: St. Augustine. Man, that guy is one tough read. He's good, but wow, tough stuff.
Evening: The Gathering. Trygve talks about Isaiah and presents the image of the seraph touching the prophet's lips with a burning coal like a good literalist would. I was so proud. And I really like what Josh did with us. Instead of just letting the congregation go bonkers with songs to, well, reign us in (in a manner of speaking) and focus our attention. I think that's especially important when you do modern worship music. I think it DOES have the capacity to minister to people. But it has to get past the, "Oh, it reaches me because I FEEL it." It has to be more than just a catchy tempo, cool drum beats, and nice instruments. You can do that with any song. The significance of what the words MEAN is the kicker. I think our Minister of Music and Art is on the right track.
Back to St. Augustine.
