Welcome to a week of madness

Christmas Vespers rehearsals are getting into gear, and there are some things I need to work on.

1. Tuning. Tuning is rarely an issue for me when I'm singing alone in the voice studio, but I've run into issues with it in Chapel Choir many times, and today was not an exception. I know Dr. Richmond getting after me is in part the normal jitters of the conductor who's getting on edge and wanting things to come together by the time things need to come together, but it's still something for me to work on. It's times like that where I really don't like being right on the end of the line. It can be good for side shots of the choir, and that's about it.

2. Oh, that trio for the Haydn... It was good to finally give it a go on the stage in Dimnent with Hillary and Isaac and most of the choir together, but after talking to a few colleagues one thing is absolutely clear to me.

Give it some more gas, Tyler! While you're up there, SING!

The trio is hardly an arena where I'm showing off and trying to completely stand out from everyone, but I also realized I can't get submerged, either. With an orchestra as the accompanying force and two other extremely powerful soloists singing with me, I realized that I have to REALLY sing to the rose window because the audience needs to hear me, too.

I'm excited for the dodectet, too. Just a few little note problems and getting the entire ensemble together, but that's going to be a lot of fun with the "Gloria" once the choir stops being quite so scared. It'll be interesting with the rehearsal with the Symphonette on Wednesday evening.
