The 2007th post... or the first post of 2007

So what to update? Well, Barry held his annual New Year's Eve insane-o bash out at that cabin in the middle of nowhere, and that was sweet. I think it took about 5 tries to get the bonfire actually started, so it was a bit cold for my tastes until then, but it was worth it. The rain wasn't so fun, though. However, it was funny when Bill sought the shelter of my umbrella and said, "Tyler... your eyes... they're um, so striking."

"Bill, you can't see them. It's too dark."

"Oh dang. Umm, that umbrella's striking too!"

Besides that, nearly getting lost in the woods (again) and nearly torched by Dave's fireworks wasn't quite so fun, but playing judges with Jordan in Speed Scrabble and going at it in a round of Munchkin was. Fear me, I was an orc wizard!

The new year started fairly quietly, until last night. The Angela invited some friends out for a night of rambunctious games, so I attended and brought Jordan with me. It really was a good time. Apples to Apples is always hilarious, although I'm not remembering any truly notable cards. Balderdash was good-I managed to win this game, which means one, maybe two things. Either I know the definitions of way too many words (tell me what an aglet is) or I'm more talented at making a convincing lie than I thought. Unfortunately, my movie plots often involve Dirty Harry references (as of late) or the movie Falling Down, which is really horrible (movie emotions/principles) but also extremely funny. But the best was last, as we played Telephone Pictionary. I've seen before the sort of madness that results from this game, but last night was truly for the record books. Someone started the first round with the quotation, "Rome wasn't built in a day." I don't even remember how it ended, but Angela's drawing led me to write the quote of the night. Hilarity ensued, and even Jordan gave me props for it.

"An eight-foot Spartan is NOT the moon."

By the way, if you're still reading-an aglet is the tip of a shoelace.

I played Apples to Apples last night, and a game called french charades. It's like telephone, except you have to act out what is going on. Everyone goes off into a seperate room, and the person that has the idea for what they want to act out goes first and acts it out to the 2nd person. Then, the 2nd person acts it out to the third person and so one. It was pretty amazing, I highly recommend it.
