Napoleon Bonaparte, these are Ludwig van Beethoven, Julius Caesar, and J.R.R. Tokien.
Okay Angela, here's your update! It even includes pictures!
The Major General Music attended an ACTUAL party here at Hope College! After hearing about all the nightmarish orgies of drinking and other badness from other people, it would seem the Major General Music had sworn off every breed of party at college completely. But this occasion was special, for it was the Kind Bible Study Leader, aka Ben's 22nd birthday and there was no way the Major General Music would miss the festivities for his good friend if he could help it. So after locking himself for several hours in the Music Library and then spending time with his insane music friends at the Pizza Hut, the Major General Music wandered across the campus to his friend's apartment with Brian Regan CD hidden in his hooded sweatshirt pocket, two decks of cards suitable for playing Nertz, and his trusty digital camera in his pocket, ready for those "Kodak moments," as he thinks they're called.
He arrived at the apartment to find a bunch of friends and a couple of roommates at the apartment, but no Ben! So he kept his friend the Sweet Singing Soprano (also called "Sarah") company as she happily sliced up birthday cakes, brownies, and other delicious treats and also watched part of the second Harry Potter movie that was blasting from the television next to the kitchen.
Soon, though, Ben and Maureen (birthday girl unknown to the Major General Music who was turning 21) arrived and things really got started. Ben called for Nertz and got his wish-two tables of Nertz, in fact. He and the Major General Music dominated the beginning but when he left and others filled in for him, the Major General Music's fate turned sour. Alas...
Following the Nertz rounds, everyone gathered in the living room for Celebrity Charades, instigated by Ben's close friend Rob. The game consisted of the large group splitting into two teams and each team member placing the names of four famous people or fictional characters into a container. It was like Pictionary for round 1, where one teammate describes as many different of the characters/people as possible in one minute using as many words as they like. Then the other team goes and play goes back and forth until all the characters are gone. Round 2 is the same except every description is only one word and you can't jump to a new character. Round 3 was by far the most exciting where you must play charades to get your teammates to figure out the character. The Major General Music owned this game in rounds 1 and 2... round 3? Not so much, especially when he doesn't know that Chris Kitan eats bananas. He noticed that the same competetive instinct he possessed from Quiz Bowl years ago returned with a vengeance in this game, much to the delight of his teammates.
Then Rob made the party exciting by engaging in a Chilean tradition of smashing birthday cake in Ben's face (or at least trying to). Following that, he brought out a bowl of spaghetti with three candles in it for Birthday Boy, keeping in the spirit of an experience they shared last year in Chile during Ben's birthday. Ben proceeded to tell everyone the story about how he "enjoyed" birthday pasta at a friend's house where the friend prayed so long over the food that the candle wax began to set in the pasta with the horrible sauce-like concotion of ketchup, chicken, pork, and beef. Not your average Hope College party but definitely one to remember. Of course, below are a few photo highlights, for your viewing pleasure!

Birthday boy himself, Ben!

Ben and I must have the partner chemistry for Nertz

Rob and Ben struck this pose in Chile last year too

The cake assault worked... kinda
