Unpacking the Mass Ordinary
I received a couple phone calls from two of my roommates... and the housing situation is changing AGAIN. *sigh*
This Bible study I want to do is looking so overwhelming. But I think it could be something really cool if I really dive into it. As a choral person, I've read through the texts used in the Mass Ordinary more times than I can count. Although I'm not a Roman Catholic myself, after looking at them again a little more closely in Music Lit, I'd like to see what sort of basis they might (or might not) have in the Bible. Each of the texts seem pretty solid to me and I don't see anything (at least on the surface) that Protestants would disagree with there. The Catholic Church utilizes each of these movements every day in the Mass regardless of the season or day, and most of them find themselves in the Requiem Mass as well.
So why would we say "Lord have mercy" or "Holy holy holy?" Is there a point. That's what I'm looking to find out.
This could take a while...
