Today = WOW.
Friday was just one of those days that makes me smile. I haven't had one of those in awhile, so it was refreshing.
-I woke up and I wasn't completely drained as soon as I was conscious. I think getting 8 hours of sleep is just a necessity for me.
-SUNSHINE! It was simply glorious to see the sun shining brightly when I walked outside to my car.
-I'm getting along well with not only Mr. Daab but also my students in the Treble Choir at Holland HS. I really enjoy working with the choir, my conducting has improved since having to use it regularly outside of the conducting classes, and the students really seem to have latched on to the piece I'm teaching them. I'm still not exactly sure what to make of some of the girls wanting to take a picture with me. I asked why and the very-excited reply was, "Because you're our FAVORITE!" Tell me in the comments what to make of that.
-I have a little bit of breathing room on my Music Lit paper. Dr. Randel agreed to meet with me to see what I have put together for my brand-new topic (sort of), and I have the weekend to begin synthesizing after diving deeper into my research.
-We listened to one of Anton Webern's string quartets in Music Lit. It utilizes the compositional technique called "twelve-tone" if that means anything to you. While we were listening, it made me think back to our compositions for Theory II in the spring, especially Alana's infamous piece, "The Circus never knew Death." I later told Steven and Noah, both of whom laughed with great amusement.
-Probably the happiest surprise of the day was seeing Pastor Brian on my way back from class. He gave me a great big huge hello, which I guess wouldn't be that big of a deal but I haven't been seen at Engedi since before my junior recital (although for legitimate reasons-Chapel Choir singing gigs and then being at Cornerstone on Sunday mornings). So getting a friendly greeting from my pastor in Holland was cool.
-My wallet might not like it later, but I ordered a recording of Elijah. It's right now serving the purposes of my research on Felix Mendelssohn, but I've wanted a copy of this oratorio anyway, so it'll be a worthy investment. And someone tell my dad that I got a nice deal: the Robert Shaw recording was cheaper AND the one I wanted!
-Abandoned Devotion. What a powerful experience, even if only for the first hour. I'm still trying to process through all of what I witnessed-seeing such a potent physical response to the Holy Spirit's presence is a foreign thing to me. But it was still amazing.
-The Orchestra Concert. That has to be one of the coolest concerts I've seen by the instrumental groups at Hope in quite awhile. Dr. Lewis and Prof. Le both did amazingly well.
I'm still trying to figure out how to take all this in.
