Trying to Settle Down

Being a musician at a wedding is an interesting experience.

Kevin and Becky called for rehearsal on Thursday at 6 P.M. Things went pretty much according to plan until where I was involved (the bridal party's procession). Behind the Waterfall/Desert Rain is a good long piece, so it worked well for having five couples in the party. Grace and I had an interesting time trying to figure out tempo and began discussing what to do to maybe shorten things so we didn't have 20 more measures when the maid of honor and best man had already taken their places.

That is when I discovered that musicians and wedding planners do NOT get along. The wedding planner decided that she needed to involve herself in the process, which is where I got frustrated. It all turned out well-Becky told us after rehearsal to just play all the way through without any changes. "The bridal party's walking REALLY fast at the rehearsal. Chances are we'll need all the music you can play anyway. And I like it-it's pretty, so just play all of it." I'm thankful for a sympathetic bride.

The wedding went well. I walked in the church and immediately had a name tag pinned to my shirt with my name and a very large grand piano on it. I guess everyone knew what I was doing during the ceremony. Kevin and Becky picked a nice, tasty buffet, too, which I really enjoyed.

Visiting Ross & Nate, check.
Holland HS Choral Concert, check.
Kevin and Becky's wedding, check.
(Addition) Judging the Ludington HS Talent Show, almost check.
Special music at church, not nearly enough time left to prepare.

Is my summer going to settle down?

I heard the washing machine spinning this morning. It sounds like an airplane.
